Paphos lives up to its name: it is the most luxurious resort in Cyprus, where the rest mostly wealthy people. It is not necessary to come with children: The resort is not focused on children's rest, there is not a children's animation programs or children's playgrounds, but cozy coves and secluded beaches, first class restaurants and other infrastructure components "beautiful life" is more than enough for the whole island. Paphos Paphos adds a place where supposedly came out of the sea foam Aphrodite herself.

A bit of history
In addition to the development of tourism infrastructure, the city attracts tourists from all over the world for its cultural heritage, because its history goes back more than five thousand years. It was founded by one of the generals who took part in the Trojan battles Agapenor. Here was erected a temple in honor of the goddess of love, which attracted people from different cities, which in turn contributed to the increase in the value of Paphos and increases its power. Later have other urban ruler - Nikokles, decided to change the location of the city, placing it closer to the coastline, so there was a division into old and new city, which now connects Prospect St. Paul. Then the Romans took possession of the city, which not only reduced its value, but also able to enrich it. In the days of the Byzantine Empire Paphos loses title of the capital, and begins to lead a modest life.
During this time, the city experienced its heyday and decline, had different names, but never lost his grandeur and charm.

How to get there
Paphos has its own airport, receiving charters and "regular season" from around the globe. From Moscow here on a regular basis flies "Transaero", and in the season lands still plenty of charter flights. From other cities to Paphos in Cyprus can be reached by municipal buses and Mini Bus, as well as on buses or taxis.
By the very same city it is possible to navigate on foot - it's small enough that it does not cause any inconvenience. But if you suddenly get tired, you can always take the bus, and you can go out of the city without any problems - an intercity bus service here too works fine.

beaches Paphos
In Paphos there are sandy and rocky beaches, the entrance to the sea - not always easy and is often complicated by the rocky coastline. In this case, the hotels are located so that sometimes "treshka" has a nice entrance to the sea, and 5 * hotel - very mediocre. This is due to the fact that the resort was initially guided by the Germans and the British, who traditionally prefer the sea pool.
The best sandy beaches in the Bay of Coral Bay, and on the shores of the Gulf of Lara secluded stretches one of the most beautiful beaches on the island to preserve marine green turtles.

Kitchen and dining Paphos
The resort has a lot of catering establishments - from the ubiquitous network and to authentic and true Cypriot. Of course, not without its Italian pizzas and kebabs, falafel Middle East. Looking for something special should go a little into the distance from the coastline - in the villages surrounding Paphos. Here in medieval taverns a cozy rural atmosphere, and the dishes are not as refined as the coast, but very tasty, and one portion, it seems possible to feed a battalion.

Entertainment, sightseeing and attractions of Paphos
The city has a lot of interesting historical sites. During archaeological excavations in the Old City was discovered a huge number of unique mosaics that were created long before the Christian era, and not only decorated temples, but also houses of wealthy citizens of ancient Paphos. Now the city has a museum, where the best leaf mosaic. In addition to these mosaics should go look for another one that adorns the ancient temple of the god of wine Dionysus.
There is also an ancient Odeon theater, which still hosts a variety of performances and concerts, allows you to experience the unique atmosphere that prevailed thousands of years ago in ancient Greek theater.
Another interesting don ancient building, located in the city - the ruins of an ancient castle, the greatness of which can be judged from the surviving forty column. And one of the most frequently visited tourist destinations is considered to be complex "royal tombs", located right in the rock, in the underground necropolis. However, buried here is not blue-blooded lady, just every tombstone looks like a work of art.
In Paphos preserved as much and Christian holy sites, because even the Apostle Paul preached in these lands. In the surrounding areas there are well-preserved and is now a functioning monastery.
Almost all monuments of Paphos (Tombs of the Kings, the Catacombs of St. Solomon, the house of Dionysus mosaic, the column of the Apostle Paul and many others) are included in the list of UNESCO world cultural values and are protected.

It is worth visiting the Akamas nature reserve, fishing village of Latchi and Ayios Neophytos monastery (St. Neophytos the Recluse) and Panagia-Hrizoroyatissa (Our Lady of the Holy Grenade).
Near Paphos is a place where, as we are assured local experts mythology, the goddess of love and beauty Aphrodite came ashore directly from the sea foam. Unfortunately, it is not much visually remarkable fragment of the coast, besides a little littered.
In honor of the goddess here built many religious buildings, and visit her bathing is committed to every visitor of the city. After all, according to legend, those who plunge into local waters, for many years to keep a youthful and beautiful appearance.

Apart from a beach holiday and various excursions Paphos is famous for its wildlife. Just in the middle of the city has grown pine forests, healthy air is for many centuries in a row helps get rid of diseases, and prolongs the life of everyone who walks through it. On the outskirts of town is a picturesque park, home to hundreds of species of birds and some exotic animals. In addition to being a park alley surrounded by greenery, its inhabitants are happy to arrange for its guests all kinds of performances. Also, the city has a wonderful aquarium and a park with all kinds of water sports, and in the nearby town is unique Turtle Farm.
But also within the city has something to do and what to see, good to each bus stop and almost all the hotels are constantly updated posters to all the city cultural events, visits to which most completely free.
